Through its programme of excursions and activities, Vision Hotels have been playing an important role in opening up social and physical opportunities for visually impaired people and their families for many years. Thanks to the award from the Big Lottery Fund (BLF), thousands more will continue to benefit over the coming years.
Paul Morrison, Action for Blind People’s Head of Hotels, said: “We’re delighted to have received this superb award from the Big Lottery Fund. Through the charity’s specialist Vision Hotels, more than 7,000 people with sight loss will continue to benefit from a range of physical, social and cultural activities in a supportive setting.
“The BLF award will fund excursions and activities for all people with sight loss, regardless of their financial circumstances. We’ll be able to build on previous activities, such as high level walking; pony trekking; tandem cycling; sailing; dry slope skiing and tutored aerobics. Theatre and shopping trips, going to music festivals and other social and cultural activities will also be supported.
“Isolation and lack of confidence often affect blind and partially sighted people; so many lives will be transformed thanks to this BLF funding and the work of Action for Blind People.”
"I just wanted to say what a success this scheme has been and how much I appreciate the lottery funding helping me out. I could not really have paid for all of it myself. I have particularly enjoyed the horse riding and sailing and feel this has given me another dimension to my life."
"As a visually impaired person and as a result of doing these activities it has given me more confidence in my day-to-day life."
"People improved their ability and hidden talents came out, some people achieved things they didn’t think they could do."
